13/13: UK Odionwere Celebrations Halted Due to Tragedy
Edo Connect has joined thousands of Edos in the United Kingdom to wish the Odionwere a happy 13th birthday.
13 September 2021 is the 13th anniversary of the installation of the Odionwere of the United Kingdom & Ireland, Pa Bernard Woghiren. He was installed on the 13th September 2008 as the first ever Odionwere of the United Kingdom & Ireland with the blessings of the Oba Palace during to reign of Omo n Oba Erediauwa.
- Under the leadership of Pa Bernard Woghiren and The Odionwere Council UK, the rate of Edo activities in the UK have increased tremendously. The yearly summer barbeque, Igue festival, the Edo Summit have all become main stays. Also, in this time the Edo UK Diaspora have hosted the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and improved relationships between the diaspora and the State government especially during the period when Mr. Osaze Osemwingie Ero was the commissioner for Edo State Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs.
The increase in Edo activities in the UK reflects an approval of satisfaction for the Odionwere Council UK from the Edos in the UK. The Odionwere Council has led consistently in the right direction, resolving issues in various Benin clubs and associations whilst supporting projects to help the Benin children in Diaspora better understand and speak the Benin Language.
However, celebrations to mark the 13th year Installation of the Odionwere have been postponed due to the passing of the wife of the Odionwere Pa Woghiren in late august 2021. There will be more information available soon.
Edo Connect also plans to release a documentary this year to give an insight into the story of the installation of the first Odionwere of the United Kingdom & Ireland, watch out.
