This is What Labour Can offer Edos (Phone Call with Labour Candidate Olu Osaigbovo Akpata)
In the last months since Labour Party entered Edo2024, they have electrified the debate about Edo’s future and breathed life into the Zombie Elections of PDP & APC.
Last weekend when Peter Obi entered Edo state to campaign for his party, Edos put Labour party ahead of PDP & APC for the first time. The establishment parties in Edo State are panicking about the rise of Labour and are trying to stop Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata by pulling down his billboards and misconstruing the words of our revered Monarch-You are a Benin man and a true son of the soil. So, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata called up Edo Connect to tell us what is really happening.
This election is over. The question now is how we can reconcile Edo and start resolving our problems together. I have put the diaspora in there as a very big factor in fixing Edo State.
Godwin Obaseki’s PDP have already lost this election. After 8 years in government, marked by broken promises and betrayals across the two main parties, the message we hear from Edos is that voters have had enough of him, his policies, and the parties.
PDP have nobody to blame but themselves for their demise. They have failed to develop Edo- failed to provide security, failed to provide good roads, good healthcare, schools or improve living standards. What is the impact of this government on the average Edo life?
Now the desperate PDP will continue the tired argument of zoning which is supposed to confuse the Edo populace to cover their reckless borrowing and spending . All the evidence is that they will even be more useless than they have been over the last 8 years if you vote for them again. How much will Edo really change under Asue Ighodalo? On the key issues there is little to choose between GO & AI.
Labour Party is now the real opposition. We are building a new Edo for the next 4 years. Labour’s manifesto with Edos, will be launched next week, if implemented could bring real change and transform life in Edo for the better. We would make it possible for more Edos- especially young Edos-to earn money by attracting our huge Edo diaspora to tourism in Edo State. We would bring good education and healthcare to Edo by fixing our schools and making sure our healthcare workers stay in the state. We will increase the income for civil servants and pay pensioners. We would boost vigilantes to ensure safety so that Edo people can do business till late rather than enforcing personal preference of electricity for only government buildings.
And above all, we will reduce the pressure on Edo economy by attracting our diaspora to help us.
We know that labour will not be in position to implement these plans after September 21 without your support. I am confident I can lead Edo into a new Era. My Labour Government will have no honeymoon period like taking one year to make appointments. Edo is broken and needs the Labour Party. My message to Edos is for too long you’ve been let down and taken for granted by PDP & APC. Come on, Vote for Labour. It’s time.
