Alison Madueke: Oil Minister from 2010-2015.
She served during Jonathan Goodluck administration. She appeared in a British
court on Oct 2nd, 2023, charged with receiving bribes of cash, luxury goods,
private jets, and use of high-end properties in Britain in return for awarding oil
contracts. Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency has welcomed the British charges
stating she is also wanted for questioning at home regarding charges of money
laundering. She is on £70,000 bail in the UK after being deemed a flight risk.
Her passport is seized. Her conditions include 11pm-6am curfew and an
electronic tag to be always worn. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She
left Nigeria in 2015 before Jonathan Goodluck handed over to ex-president
Muhammadu Buhari
How Ekweremadu is Doing: He’s Fine, he’s fine. Former Deputy Senate
President, Ike Ekweremadu, is getting on with life behind bars. In March 2023,
Ekweremadu was found guilty in the UK under the Modern Slavery Act with his
wife Betrice, and physician, Dr. Obinna Obeta, by an Old Bailey jury. In May
2023 he was sentenced to nine years in jail for organ trafficking. His wife was
given 4yrs and six months. In November 2023 an official of the Nigerian High
Commission said: “He’s fine, he’s fine.” Asked if the wife too was getting on
with life as an inmate, he said: “That l don’t. know”. Meanwhile his son Lloyd
Ekweremadu has been appointed as a commissioner in Enugu state by
Governor Peter Mbah.
